About the opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Senior Denim Designer to lead women’s denim design across a portfolio of national brands and private-label programs. This role combines hands-on product creation with team management, from seasonal concept and trend forecasting through fabric and wash development, fittings, and production handoff. You will bring a strong point of view on women’s denim and the judgment to adapt it to different customers, retail channels, and price points.

Responsibilities

• Lead seasonal denim direction, translating market research, competitive shopping, customer feedback, and available sales insights into purposeful assortments of fits, silhouettes, washes, and fashion details.
\n
• Design women’s denim with a clear understanding of proportion, comfort, and the relationship between fabric, wash, and fit. Balance proven core styles with newness appropriate to each brand and retail customer.
\n
• Develop fabrics with mills, sourcing teams, and factories, evaluating weight, construction, stretch, recovery, hand feel, shrinkage, performance, and cost. Anticipate how fabric choices will respond to washing and wear.
\n
• Establish seasonal wash ranges and physical standards. Direct wash development with factories and laundries, reviewing shade, cast, abrasion, whiskering, distressing, tint, and finishing against the intended aesthetic and quality requirements.
\n
• Partner closely with Technical Design in fittings to refine rise, waist and hip balance, leg shape, pocket placement, and overall proportion. Resolve fit and construction issues while preserving design intent across relevant size ranges.
\n
• Create and review sketches, design specifications, bills of materials, and tech packs in Centric PLM. Keep fabric, wash, trim, color, and construction information accurate as styles move from development into production.
\n
• Guide designers through clear briefs, constructive feedback, and practical coaching. Allocate work across seasonal development and urgent account requests, establish priorities, and provide reliable backup and knowledge sharing.
\n
• Partner with Sales on line plans and account-specific assortments; present design direction and explain product choices in terms of customer appeal, pricing, and commercial opportunity.
\n
• Coordinate with CAD and artwork teams on accurate presentations and production details. Review development samples, wash submits, trims, and other approvals with the appropriate partners, giving factories clear, consolidated direction.

• Manage development milestones with production and overseas teams. Address sample capacity, material availability, costing changes, and execution risks early; maintain organized records of approved standards and decisions.

Qualifications

\n
• A degree in fashion design or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
\n

Required Skills

\n
• At least 10 years of relevant apparel design experience, with substantial, recent specialization in women’s denim and demonstrated ownership of collections from concept through development and production follow-through.
\n
• Deep expertise in women’s denim fit, fabric, wash, garment construction, and finishing, supported by a portfolio of commercially executed product.
\n
• Proven experience managing or directly supervising designers, setting priorities, reviewing work, and developing team capabilities while maintaining your own hands-on design responsibilities.
\n
• Experience working directly with overseas factories, mills, and wash facilities, including resolving development issues and balancing design intent with cost, quality, and delivery.
\n
• Strong Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills, experience creating complete tech packs in PLM, and confidence using spreadsheets and presentation tools. Centric experience is preferred.
\n
• Strong commercial judgment, clear communication, and the ability to manage overlapping seasons and multiple accounts.
\n
• Openness to digital and AI-assisted tools that improve research, visualization, and organization while preserving product accuracy.

Preferred Skills

\n
• Experience with national brands, private label, club retail, or missy and plus-size denim is particularly valuable.
